Sail Camp (Half Day: $175 - Full Day: $250)
Kids will be grouped into similar ages.
The format is 5 day day-camps. Instruction includes educational games and
activities designed to enhance teamwork, self-esteem and confidence, safety and
sport-specific skills. Kids take trips to various sites including: Picnic Point,
UW Memorial Union, Maple Bluff, and other cool spots on Lake Mendota. Friday
kids get a Supreme-style Hawaiian BBQ! All camps meet at James Madison Park, in
downtown Madison.

SWS has indoor
facilities and camp will run on rainy days. We will play games, work on general
outdoor education skills, and get to know each other better. We also have a
TV for movies and another for a Wii
onsite.

Day 1
Morning
On the first day you will get to know each other, and talk about very basic
sailing theory to get you going. You will then learn the names of the parts of
sail boats, take a lunch break, and then go over rigging a boat. We will also go
over some safety rules and an overview of the week ahead with you. You will then
get into sail boats and do some sailing!

Day 1
Afternoon
We'll take a break and get into Session One of the Outdoor Education Curriculum.
The topics include First Aid & Life Guarding, ecology, local wildlife and
insects, orienteering, knot tying, camping, and wilderness survival. (More
ephasis will be placed on topics that you campers most enjoy.) Then we will join
the other Full Day Camps on a group canoe or kayak trip and get more instruction
along the way. Snacks and beverages are provided after the trip. It will be
around 5pm, so we'll hang out playing games, fishing, or free paddle close to
the park while kids get picked up.

Day 2
Morning
You will start off right away with reviewing sailing theory and gradually
getting into more detail, then play some morning games to review gear
terminology. You will then go for a sail. You will come back around noon for
lunch, and then go do some more sailing.

Day 2
Afternoon
We'll take a break and get into Session Two of the Outdoor Education Curriculum.
Then we will review and learn about sailing with the other Full Day Camps, and
have a guided sailing session. Kids can go paddling with the sailors if they
want. Snacks and beverages are provided after the trip. It will be around 5pm,
so we'll hang out playing games, fishing, or free paddle close to the park while
kids get picked up

Morning
You will work on sailing skills all day Wednessday and go exploring. We'll be
sure to grab lunch around noon!

Afternoon
We'll take a break and get into Session Three of the Outdoor Education
Curriculum. Next you can go swimming, play around the park, or learn about the
different boats. Then we'll have an open sport session and kids can go canoeing,
kayaking, sailing, or learn about windsurfing. Snacks and beverages are provided
after the trip. It will be around 5pm, so we'll hang out playing games, fishing,
or free paddle close to the park while kids get picked up.

Morning
You will go for a morning sail, have lunch, and then take a trip to the Memorial
Union and get some ice cream. (Parents, don't forget to give your child a few
dollars!) You can check out the Union and UW Red Gym.

On the last day you will have fun exploring the lake, and then come back a
little early for lunch for a Supreme style Hawaiian cook out. We'll serve you
burgers, hotdogs, and tropical fruit plus drinks. We'll finish with a great time
sailing some more.
